Ten SLPP MPs yesterday (26) claimed they were being subjected to threats by certain persons, following their proposals to the President on overcoming the current economic crisis. They indirectly warned that, they will take a decision ‘according to their conscience’ if a common agreement is not reached on the solutions they presented to the President, the PM and several parties in the Government. In a statement to the media, the 10 MPs said they handed over a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to appoint an all-party interim Government to resolve the crises, as a single party would not be able to find immediate solutions alone. The statement was signed by MPs K.P.S. Kumarasiri, Dr. Wasantha Yapabandara, Gunapala Rathnasekara, Sudath Manjula, Lalith Ellawala, Udayana Kirindigoda, Akila Saliya Ellawala, Dr. Upul Galappaththi, Karunadasa Kodithuwakku and Udayakantha Gunathilaka. “We proposed to establish an all-party interim Government, which could win the maximum trust of local and international communities, so that we can restore the supply chains to provide fuel, gas, electricity and other essential commodities without interruption and put an end to the people’s unrest. “We proposed an all-party interim Government under the leadership of an SLPP MP. Discussions were held regarding this with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and parties in the Government, and we hope to hold discussions with other parties as well, the MPs said. “Unfortunately, it seems that certain factions cannot bear our genuine efforts to find solutions to the current crises. Mudslinging campaigns are being levelled at us as a result of this.
