Former Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakshe said President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s choice of people for top government positions was a clear indication of the country’s economic collapse.
Speaking in Parliament today, former ruling party MP who now functions independently said such appointments demonstrated that the President had zero political acumen.
“He selected P.B. Jayasundara as Secretary to the President. He was a man who was disqualified by the Supreme Court from holding any government position. But he was handpicked as the Secretary to the President," Rajapakshe said.
“Ajith Nivard Cabraal was appointed the Central Bank Governor. If I start talking about the corruption allegations leveled against Cabraal, I can continue talking till tomorrow morning.”
“Some people who were held responsible for serious acts of financial misappropriation under the report published by COPE under my chairmanship in 2007 were also given key government positions.”
“So, why is it a surprise that our economy collapsed?” the MP asked.
