The Court of Appeal today acquitted MP Premalal Jayasekera from the murder case filed against him.

Jayasekera was previously sentenced to death over a murder in Niwithigala during the presidential election campaign in 2015.

He contested the last Parliamentary election while in prison and obtained the highest number of votes from the Rathnapura district.

He was allowed to attend the parliamentary sessions by the Speaker despite being a murder convict.
