the Ceylon Electricity Board sources said that the ongoing power cuts could be extended to 10 hours in the coming days.

This situation has arisen due to the fact that the water level in the reservoirs associated with the hydro power plants can be maintained at the current generation capacity only for another 10 days. The Kerawalapitiya power plant has been closed down due to shortage of fuel.

He added that the CEB was likely to seek permission from the Public Utilities Commission for power cuts exceeding 10 hours.
