SJB MP Dr. Harsha De Silva said Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal has defied summons from the Financial Committee in Parliament.

The Finance Committee, headed by MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, is the highest committee in Parliament related to public finance.

“They we’re waiting for Cabraal and the Monetary Board to turn up. But they did not appear before the committee. They have ignored the summons from the highest body in the legislature related to public finance,” de Silva said.

He added that the Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had not attended Parliament for three months.

“This parliament is convened to discuss crucial matters in the country. Both the Finance Minister and the CB Governor have undermined the authority of Parliament. What kind of responsibility can we expect of such people,” de Silva asked.
