President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa apologised to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe over Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal's remarks over the financial performace of the previous government.

Speaking at the All Party Conference convened today, Cabraal presented a report explaining how the conduct of the previous government contributed to the current crisis.

Wickremesinghe disputed the statement, adding that it was not the time to disuss such matters as it would only entangle everyone in a meaningless debate.

"In the end, we will have to go back to the era of King Wijeya to examine what went wrong," Wickremesinghe said.

Responding to Wickremesinghe's remarks, the President apologised to the former Prime Minister and stated that the government's intention was to work with everyone to resolve the current crisis.
