The two main parties in the opposition - the SJB and the JVP - have decided to boycott the All Party Conference convened by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to discuss solutions to the current crisis.
Both parties have decided to boycott the APC on the basis that the government does not have a genuine political will to resolve the issues in the country.
They have maintained that the government decided to convene an APC to avoid internal issues in the ruling alliance.
They also claim that the government has not presented adequate information about the current economic situation in the country making it impossible for opposition parties to discuss meaningful solutions.
