President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has appointed an Economic Council to accelerate the country's economic growth through proper economic management.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Basil Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Secretary to the Treasury S.R Attygalle, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Dhammika Nanayakkara.

This Economic Council is scheduled to meet every week.

This Economic Council is tasked with coordinating policy making, advising ministries, departments, statutory bodies and guiding the government on changes in the global economy.
