Minister Vasudewa Nanayakkara is likely to resign from his ministerial portfolio, informed political sources said.

Nanayakkara will step down from his post in protest of the President's decision to sack Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila from their Cabinet portfolios.

Nanayakkara was also a member of the collective formed by Weerawansa and Gammanpila along with other small parties representing the Government.

Nanayakkara is one of the most senior-most members in the current parliament.
