Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy today (18) requested the Minister of Finance to remove the taxes imposed on fuel in order to minimize the huge losses incurred by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation due to the increase in crude oil prices in the world market.
Minister Udaya Gammanpila has said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is losing Rs. 551 million a day due to the non-increase in fuel prices due to the increase in crude oil prices. Also mentioned.
The Ministry of Finance has imposed a tax of Rs. 42 on a liter of 92 octane petrol, Rs. 64 on a liter of 95 octane petrol, Rs. 17 on a liter of diesel and Rs. 39 on a liter of premium diesel. Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that this loss would decrease if the Finance Ministry removed tax on fuel.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is currently selling 92 octane petrol at a loss of Rs. 19 per liter, 95 octane petrol Rs. 17 per liter, diesel Rs. 52 per liter, premium diesel Rs. 35 per liter and kerosene Rs. 63 per liter without increasing fuel prices. If it continues, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will be in danger of losing not only the dollars but also the rupees needed to import fuel, said Minister Gammanpila.
