The Government has come under severe criticism over the arrest of social activist Shehan Malaka Gamage and the summoning of writer Manorama Weerasinghe to the CID.

Gamage has been an activist calling for justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks. He also criticised the police action over the recent incident at All Saints Church, Borella.

The Police issuing a statement said Gamage was arrested under the advice of the Attorney General.

Weerasinghe, in a Facebook post. said the reason for the summons issued on him is unknown.

The two developments have been criticised b a number of politicians, social activists and many others.
