Colombo District Judge Aruna Aluthge today issued an enjoining order against the Government Nurses Association and its chairman Saman Ratnapriya, preventing them from going on strike during the Kovid epidemic.

After considering a complaint lodged by the Attorney General, the District Judge ordered that the relevant injunction be effective until the 24th of this month and further ordered the respondents to appear before the court on that day.

Eighteen health unions affiliated to the nursing and paramedical Services have commenced a continuous strike from February 07.

The health unions involved in the trade union action announced that the strike was based on several demands including wage anomalies.
