The Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has decided to boycott the Independence Day celebrations this year and not to hold his annual Independence Day service at the All Saints Church in Borella.

This decision has been made due to the fact that justice has not yet been done in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks and the unjust detention of a person named Muneendran who was serving at the All Saints Church in Borella oevr the incident where a grenade was found in the church.

However, Independence Day services will take place in other churches across the country. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando said today.

He stated that a representative of Cardonal Malcolm Ranjith would attend the Independence Day celebrations in Colombo.
