Senior Parliamentarian Kumara Welgama today launched a veiled attack on Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and his wife Jalani Premadasa.

Speaking to reporters after the birth anniversary celevration of the late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, Welgama said the Executive Presidency should be abolished.

"If the President does not behave like a mad man, the 'Aryawa' will start behaving in a manic way. That is the nature of the Executive Presidency," Welgama added.

"The wives of former President J.R. Jayewardene, Maithripala Sirisena and the current President behave in an appropriate manner. I don't know about others," he added.

When the reporters asked whether the statement was aimed at Sajith Premadasa's wife Jalani Premadasa, Welgama did not give a clear answer.

He, however, stated that he was not a member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

"It is true that I contested the election from the SJB. That was because I wanted to come to Parliament. But, I have clearly told them that I am an SLFPer. One day, my coffin will be covered with a blue flag," he added.
