China's Defence Minister Gen. Wei Fenghe is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka later this month.
Foreign Ministry sources said the dates for the Chinese Defence Minister's visit were not yet fixed.
Fenghe is the highest-ranking Chinese delegate arriving in Sri Lanka since the current government came to power last year.
He is expected to engage in top-level discussions with Sri Lanka's highest political authorities on a number of strategic matters.
The visit also comes against a backdrop where the Chinese-funded Colombo Port City has come under severe scrutiny with the proposal to set up a Special Economic Commission governing the implementation of the project.
