"When JVP Founder Rohana Wijeweera was captured by security forces he had only requests to his wife. One of them was not to convert his children to another religion," former JVP member and Cabinet Minister Wimal Weerawansa said yesterday.

"The former JVP leader wife was from a Catholic background and therefore Wijeweera might have had fears that she would convert their children to another religion in the event of his death. Why did a die-hard Marxist make such a request? Why did he want his children to remain as Buddhists? This is what the JVP must understand," Weerawansa said during a speech in Colombo.
