The suspect who was wanted for the murder of a woman whose decapitated body was found in a travelling bag on Dan Street, Colombo, has committed suicide.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the body of the suspect was found hanging from a tree in the Pahal Kanuwa area in Badalkumbura, where his house is located.

A bottle of poison was also found near the body and the police suspect that he may have committed suicide by consuming poison.

The deceased has been identified as a 52-year-old Sub Inspector attached to the Buttala Police.

On March 1, a decapitated body was found in the Dam Street area and it was revealed that it belonged to a woman in the Theppanawa area in Kuruwita.

The suspect had escaped to a jungle when the police raided his house to arrest him yesterday.

A police who conducted a search operation this morning found the body of the suspect, the police spokesman said.
