The police suspect that a Sub Inspector (SI) of Buttala Police was responsible for the murder of the girl whose decapitated body was found in a traveling bag on Dam Street in Colombo on March 01.

This police officer has also worked in the Ministerial Security Division.

The suspect had escaped the jungle through the back door of the house when police went to the house in Badalkumbura, Weheragoda in search of Mudiyanselage Premamasiri (50), a married Sub Inspector.

Public Security Minister Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera said that an operation had been launched to apprehend the suspect.

The victim was identified as Liniyakumara Dulanige Dilini Yasodha Jayasuriya (30), a resident of Theppagama, Badogama, Kuruwita. She has been identified as a sister of a local politician in the area.
