The Cabinet yesterday decided to present the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) report on alleged acts of corruption ins tate institutions under the previous government.
Several government spokespersons confirmed that the decision to table the report in Parliament was made at the Cabinet meeting yesterday. Accordingly, the report is likely to be presented at the next Parliamentary session.
The report is expected to spark a fresh controversy in politics as it implicates a number of figures now affiliated with the opposition.
Rretired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, who headed the five-member Commission of Inquiry (CoI) which was appointed by the President to probe large scale corruption allegations during the period between January 15, 2015 and December 31, 2018, haned over the report to the President.
Retired High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardane, retired Auditor General Pasdunkorale Arachchige Pemathilaka, retired Ministry Secretary Lalith R. de Silva and, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police M. K. D. Wijaya Amarasinghe served as members of the commission.
