JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has challenged the government to make the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) report on political victimisation public.
The JVP has decribed the PCOI, which recommended action against a number of opposition politicians who functioned as members of the Anti-corruption Committee under the previous government, as the Commission of King Kekille — a fabled king known for erratic judgment.
Addressing a press briefing yesterday, Dissanayake said the government had presented only one out of six volumes of the commission report to Parliament.
"The government must know that a PCOI report is not a private property of the Rajapaksa family. We have been made aware that it has made recommendations against us. Therefore, we have a right to access the full report and study its content for legal action. We challenge the government to release the commission report to the public," he said.
The JVP leader said he was ready to face any proper inquiry initiated by the police or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in this regard.
"But we are not ready to accept the legitimacy of Kekille-style commission reports. We will defeat such attempts decisively and expose them before the public," Dissanayake asserted.
