Amidst growing criticism over irregular and distribution of COVID19 vaccines, the government is now considering to vaccinate the public according to the voters list prepared by the Elections Department.

Tens of thousands of people flocked at vaccination cenres across the country to obtain the vaccine over the past few days as the government rolled out the mass vaccination porgramme. However, many were turned away by health officials on the basis that they were not "registered" for vaccination.

A serious confusion has arisen over the manner in which individuals are selected for the government-run vaccination programme. There were numerous complaints on social media that those with connections and privileges had early access to the COVID19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, the politician in charge of pandemic management in Sri Lanka, slammed the senior health officials over ad-hoc and irregular vaccination programme.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, she said some officials were acting arbirarily causing chaos in the vaccination programme.

However, Fernandopulle stated that those above the age 30 would receive the vaccine based on the voters list prepared by the Elections Secretariat.
