In the midst of a raging outbreak of COVID19 in the country, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to vaccinate the public with immediate effect, starting from the Western province.

This comes against the backdrop of fears expressed my many that the new variants of COVID19 are rapidly spreading in some parts of the country.

The Army Commander saus the vaccination of the public will begin from the Western province tomorrow. The public will be given Oxford-Aztrazeneca vaccine produced in India.

According to the Army Commander, those who engage with the public on a regular basis and vulnerable groups will be given priority under the initial phase.

However, mixed opinions have been expressed across the world on the efficacy of the vaccines against the new variants of the virus.
