Responding to his critics within the SLPP, Minister Wimal Weerawansa requested President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to conduct a police invetsigation into claims that individuals funded by foreign intelligences services were working with him.
"I request the President to sanction a police inquiry. First, the person who came up with the allegation must be summoned to the CID to record a statement. Then, the other involved should be investigated to find out to the truth," Weerawansa said.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam and several other MPs of the party stated that Weerawansa must tender a public apology for saying that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa should be appointed the leader of the SLPP.
"Those who talk about me are SLPP backbenchers. Even in a house, toddlers throw things around and make noises. But no one takes them seriously,"Weerawansa said speaking to the media earlier today.
