Cabinet Minister Wimal Weerawansa has hit out at SLFP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam over the latter's remarks on the collective responsibility of the government.
Kariyawasam expressed critical views saying he was saddened by the conduct of some members of the who failed to uphold the "collective responsibility." The General Secretary's remarks were mainly targeted at Weerawansa who severely criticised the government's viewpoints on the Easter Container Terminal (ECT) issue. Weerawansa also mobilized other party leaders within the ruling coalition to reverse the government's course of action.
In an interview with a Sunday newspaper, Weerwansa had hit back at Kariyawasam saying he was not bothered by the disappointment of someone who was dished out a parliamentary seat for being a "servant".
‘We have no problem with him being sad. I have a problem if the people of the country feel sorry for the actions we take. That's the only problem we have. Those who came from the national list and won seats do not understand the paramount importance of defending the mandate given by the people. The post of National List Member of Parliament is a gift that is given to someone for being a servant," he added. .
