Sri Lankan Government Contemplating Revisions To "Lion" In National Flag

Defense Ministry Secretary General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne stated that steps were being taken to revise the lion image of the current national flag of Sri Lanka.

He also said that steps will be taken to address some of the shortcomings in the image of the lion on the national flag.

He further said that in order to do this, a huge process has to be embarked upon and the proposal is being discussed with the relevant government officials and it should be presented to Parliament for approval.

The lion flag was adopted in 1948 following the recommendations of a committee appointed by the first Prime Minister of Ceylon D.S. Senanayake.

He also said that the 73rd Independence Day celebrations of Sri Lanka would be held in strict adherence to health guidelines.
