State Minister Arundika Fernando has tested positive for COVID19.

Fernando, a Puttalam District MP, is the 7th Sri Lankan Parliamentarian to test positive for the virus.

Six of the infected MPs are from the ruling party and some of them have already returned home after recovering from the infection.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has requested all MPs to undergo PCR tests and ensure that they are not infected with the virus.

However, as of yesterday, only 90MPs had taken PCR tests. It was learnt that many MPs were reluctant to take PCR tests fearing that they would test positive for the virus.
