A day after opposition MP Ranjan Ramanayake was imprisoned or contempt of court, the Battialoa High Court acquitted and released Parliamentarian Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan and four other suspects in the murder case of former TNA MP Josheph Pararajasingham.

Chandrakanthan, a former LTTE militant, is now a parliamentarian affiliated with the SLPP government.

The ruling came after the Attorney General's Department informed the court that it is withdrawing the case against the Parliamentarian.

Pilleyan was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for the murder of MP Pararajasingham in 2015. He won a seat at the last Pariamentary election altough he was in remand custody in connection with the case .
