Opposition MP Dr. Harsha De Silva asked whether former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga burst the “bio secure bubble” within which Ukrainian tourists are functioning in Sri Lanka.
Weeratunga was seen in photographs with visiting Ukrainian tourists on several occasions. In most of the photographs, the former diplomat, a close relative of the Rajapaksa family, was not even wearing a face mask.
“Why did the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) bend backwards to accommodate his unsolicited proposal?,” de Silva asked on Twitter yesterday.
“Who let him take tourists out of t bubble in Yala -‘d elsewhere. Did he do the mandatory 1, 3 and 6 day PCR tests to leave quarantine in seven days?” he also asked.
However, the Safari drivers in Yala who travelled with the visiting Ukrainian tourists have been placed under quarantine.
