SJB MP Ranjan Ramanayake said he has decided distribute personal funds of Rs. 4 million he received as allowances from the government to the needy citizens of Sri Lanka.
He made this announcement via his personal YouTube channel yesterday,
“Four years ago all parliamentarians received an allowance of Rs. 100,000. There was also an attendance allowance which was raised to Rs. 2,500 from Rs. 500. Initially I directed back those money to the treasury. It served no-one,” he said.
He also said that following his request via the Parliament General Secretary, the Attorney General approved and he has received Rs. 4 million,” the MP said standing opposite a table covered with Rs. 5000 notes.
He said that since he has no family or property to maintain with the money, he decided to give the money and name it as a ‘cash dansela’.
He said any needy people could contact his secretary Kushan Thilakarathna on 0773624927 to get the money. He said that priority would be given to migrant workers and artists and it will be done in a confidential manner.
