Police investigations have been launched to find out the perpetrators behind vandalizing two Buddhist statues in the Mawanella area.

Two Buddhist statues in Hingula and Aluthnuwara were vandalized by an unidentified group over the last two days.

The incident drew the attention of many parties as a similar attack on Buddhist statues were reported in the same area months before the Easter Sunday attacks.

The latest incident comes amidst tensions among some circles over the burial rights of Muslims dying due to COVID19.
