COVID19-Infected PS Chairman Defies Quarantine Laws And Attends Meetings Exposing Several Politicos To Virus

Agarapathana Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, who was tested positive for COVID19 on December 20, has defied quarantine laws and taken part in several meetings attended by a number of political leaders and senior state officials.

The PS Chairman and his family members were placed under home-quarantine on December 16. However, the PS Chairman has violated the procedure and has attended several meetings in the Nuwaraeliya district on December 17 and 18.

It has been revealed that a number of chairmen, mayors and councilors of Nuwara Eliya, Talawakele Lidula, Kotagala, Agarapathana, Norwood, Maskeliya, Ambagamuwa Local Government bodies have participated in these meetings.

The LG members who were exposed to the infected PS Chairman will be subjected to a PCR examination again, Thalawakale - Lindula Medical Officer of Health Janath Abeygunawardena said.

The MOH said that a case will be filed in the NuwaraEliya Magistrate's Court on the 21st against the Chairman of the Agarapathana Pradeshiya Sabha who acted contrary to the quarantine instructions and that steps will be taken to direct the close associates of the infected chairman to self-quarantine.
