All cases scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal today (16) have been postponed due to investigations into the fire which broke out at the apex court complex.

The contempt of court case against opposition MP Ranjan Ramanayake was also among the cases that have been postponed due to the fire at the courts complex. All cases are scheduled to be taken up tomorrow.

The case was scheduled to be heard today before a three-judge bench comprising Justices Sisira de Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda and Murdu Fernando.

In addition, a fundamental rights petition filed by a group of students seeking not to admit students to the Engineering and Physical Science faculties in accordance with the recently released university cut-off marks was due to be called for further hearing today.

A fire broke out at a warehouse in the Supreme Court complex last evening (15) and the Fire Brigade was able to put out the fire in an hour.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana has assured that no documents relating to court cases have been damaged due to the fire.
