IGP Chandana Wickremaratne And His Staff At Police HQ Placed Under Self-quarantine After IGP's Driver Tested Positive For COVID19

December 09, 2020

IGP Chandana Wickramaratne and his staff have been placed under quarantine since yesterday (07) after his driver was infected with COVID19.

Due to this, the IGP did not attend the National Security Council chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday (08), top government sources confirmed.

As a precautionary measure, officers of the IGP's office on the third floor of the police headquarters, including the IGP, have been directed to quarantine themselves as the IGP's driver was tested positive on December 07.

A senior official of the Police Headquarters revealed that the officers of other sections of the Police Headquarters had been restricted from going to the IGP's office since yesterday (07).

With this latest development, the Police Headquarters in Colombo has been completely disinfected and a remote service has been launched.

IGP Wickramaratne, who covered the duties of the police chief for over a year, was confirmed in his position last month.
