Fifty doctors have been quarantined after they participated in a party hosted by a doctor at the Gampola Teaching Hospital who has been tested positive for COVOD19.

In addition, 19 nursing staff and 19 junior staff have also been quarantined.

The party was organized by a doctor, a resident of Akurana, who left the Gampola Hospital after completing two years of service.

Sri Lanka has seen a spike n COVID19 cases in many parts of the country as health authorities struggle to contain the spread of the virus.

Health authorities have strictly advised the public to avoid all non-essential gatherings due to the current situation in the country. It is often stated that front-line health workers are at greater risk as they directly interact with COVID19 patients and those who show symptoms.
