The Samagi Jana Balawegaya today said IPG, the Dubai-based company involved in managing the Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament has not paid a single cent to Sri Lanka thus far.

IPG has agreed a five-year deal with Sri Lanka Cricket worth $2m (€1.7m) annually, according to newspaper reports.

“Not a single installment has been paid thus far. How is this possible?” opposition MP Thushara Indunil asked in Parliament.

IPG is headed by sports broadcasting veteran Anil Mohan. The firm has previously worked with Cricket South Africa, the Pakistan Cricket Board, Zimbabwe Cricket, Cricket Ireland, the Asian Cricket Council, the Caribbean Premier League and the Afghanistan Cricket Board.

“There are so many unresolved issues surrounding the tournament. South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs left his country as a commentator. But suddenly he became the head coach of the Colombo Kings team. In essence, he boarded the flight as a commentator but landed here as a coach!,” he said.
