Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretary Ms Priyantha Dissanayake said that they have taken over the land and building of the 80 Club of Colombo at Independence Avenue, Colombo 7, for violating several conditions including the non-payments of lease arrears.

“The Club management continuously failed to pay the lease arrears, so we had to take over the property according to the government rules and regulations,” Mrs. Dissanayake said.

The government has taken over the prime property at Independence Avenue, Colombo 7, with effect from November 12

“The Urban Development Authority (UDA) had already submitted a cabinet paper to take over the property under its purview for development work,” she added.

It is learnt that a comprehensive refurbishment and restoration process of the Club premises is planned by the Urban Development Authority jointly with Waters Edge Ltd.
