Assistant Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association Dr. Navin de Soysa said holding the election on June 20 might be "problematic", should the government fail to implement health standards.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, he said his organization did not want to interfere with matters that do not come under their purview.
"If they are in a position to hold the election within the stipulated parameters, we don't have any problem with that. However, a question arises if they fail to adhere to those standards," he added.
The GMOA Assistant Secretary said both the government and the Elections Commission have a responsibility to ensure that these standards are met.
