The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located 190 km southeast of Trincomalee as of 11:30 p.m. yesterday, is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm today (27) as it moves northwest toward Sri Lanka's east coast.
The system will bring cloudy skies, very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph to the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, North-Western, and Central provinces. Showers or thundershowers will also occur in other areas, with fairly heavy rainfall above 75 mm in some regions.
Residents are advised to take precautions against potential damage from strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation and inform through official updates.
