A special audit report on the implementation of electronic passports in Sri Lanka has uncovered irregularities and corrupt practices, leading to significant disruptions in the passport issuance process.
Auditor General W.M.C. Wickramarathna revealed that the findings have been shared with the relevant Ministry, and the department's recommendations will be presented to Parliament for further action.
The audit highlighted a failure to follow proper procurement procedures, which contributed to a severe shortage of passports and long queues of applicants seeking travel documents.
