Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Seneratne says six people were arrested by special CID teams yesterday in relation to EasterSunday attacks. these include a lawyer, a customs officer and the brother of former Minister Rishard Bathiudeen.
He said Riyad Bathiurdeen, brother of former Minister Rishard Bathiudeen, was arrested after it it was discovered he had direct relations with one of the Easter Sunday bombers, and had met him sometime before the attack at a popular hotel for a discussion.
The lawyer arrested had connections with two of the Easter Sunday bombers, held positions with them in several orgaisations and had some connection/involvement in planning the attacks.
The others arrested held various positions in a number of welfare societies together with the Easter Sunday bombers who had also gifted money and land to these organisations.
Police says the Easter Sunday investigation is very complex, with many aspects to it requiring the work of several CID teams to apprehend all those who had contributed in any way to the attacks.
He displayed a graphical representation tracing those who had been in direct contact with the bombers, and said Police teams working to conclude investigations as fast as possible.
Responding to question(s) from journalists, he said (i). six arrested yesterday are being detained under PTA - advise/direction from the Attorney General will be requested if required.
(ii). while there is currently no evidence linking Bathiudeen to the Easter Sunday attacks, the CID's focus is finding those responsible for the attack, regardless of status or rank.
