Businessman A.S.P. Liyanage and former Minister Mervyn Silva are set to contest the upcoming Parliamentary election on the UNP ticket.
Liyanage's has been included in the UNP list of candidates for the Colombo District while Silva has signed nomination papers to contest the election from the Anuradhapura district.
Speaking to reporters about his new move, Silva said he was geared to carry forward King Dutugemunu's legacy in Anuradhapura.
Fernando, a controversial businessman, served as Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Qatar under the previous government.
