UNP General Sectretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has informed the Elections Commission that the UNP will contest the upcoming Parliamentary election.

Kariyawasam has informed the commission that the UNP will field candidates foe 22 districts under the elephant symbol.

The announcement has been made while many parties are trying to broker an agreement between the two warring groups within the party.

The group supporting Sajith Premadasa and constituent parties within the UNF alliance will contest under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
