The United National Party said the government's fairy tales before the election had disappeared into thin air.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Pitakotte, UNP MP Ajith Mannapperuma said the government had mismanaged the economy while attempting to increase the debt burden on the people.
"Fuel prices in the world market have dropped drastically, but the government has failed to pass on this benefit to the consumers," Mannapperuma added. He also stated that the previous government had passed funds for the first four months of this year before the last Presidential election.
Commenting on the current issues within the UNP-led alliance over party symbol, Mannapperuma said people would vote for the principles of the party and not for symbols.
