Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the majority of SLPP members were against the decision to nominate former President Maithripala Sirisena as the Chairman of SLFP-SLPP alliance.
"I am personally against the decision and I have conveyed my ideas to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa," he said.
"The SLPP is strong enough to win the Parliamentary election on its own, but our leaders decided to enter into an alliance with the SLFP," Ranatunga said expressing disappointment with Sirisena's new position.
"It is true that the Chairman of the alliance is only a nominal title, but the majority of our members don't want Sirisena to hold such a position," he added.
The former Minister said former President Sirisena was also responsible for the current plight of Sri Lanka.
