Ruling party MP Prasanna Ranweera has been appointed the Assistant Government Whip.

Ranaweera received his letter of appointment from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Ranaweera rose to fame when he attacked police officers in Parliament with chilli powder at the height of the political crisis in 2018.

His inclusion in the Prime Minister's delegation to India also sparked a controversy earlier this month.
