The Colombo Fort Magistrate remanded Ex-Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga until the 17th of February.

Weeratunga was questioned by the CID at the Katunaike Bandaranaike International Airport. He was later taken into custody.

Weeratunga was under investigation for several high-profile cases including the MIG deal.

Weeratunga, a close relative of the Rajapaksa family, returned to the country early this morning.

Although an Interpol warrant was issued on him, the Police could not take measures to arrest the former Ambassador.
