National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa has asked court if he can have the newspapers delivered to him daily while he is in prison.
Lawyers appearing for the NFF leader had reportedly told Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne their client felt he should have access to the daily newspapers as he was a parliamentarian, and would need to address the assembly on current issues.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate told the NFF leader she was not authorised to allow him access to newspapers, but asked him to make the same request from the Prisons Department.
She had also warned prison officials to keep a closer eye on the NFF leader to watch against his security.
