Karunasena Hettiarachchi Secretary to the Ministry of Defence has assured that there is no shortfall in security in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
The Secretary stated this during an event in Galle.
The Defence Secretary said there are several reports on the internet which claim that national security is under threat but those reports are completely baseless.
Hettiarachichi said he visits the Northern Province every two weeks and communicates with officers stationed there. Hettiarachchi added, “there are still 971 displaced persons lodged in camps with their families. The President and the Prime Minister was alerted and houses will be built for them. The military are directly engaged in building houses for displaced Tamil families. This is the picture of the situation in the North.”
Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi also rejected accusations of withdrawing the military from the North. But the Secretary said the military is attempting to return private land occupied during the war to its owners. He said these efforts were not being done to appease the international community.
