A super luxury V-8 vehicle has been imported for the use of the Northern Provincial Council CM at the cost of Rs 42 million.
The vehicle is expected to arrive in the country in the next few weeks.
The import of the vehicle is questionable as there are a number of taxes imposed on the people and also since the duration of the council has entered the latter part.
CM Peshala Jayaratne has told the local media that the vehicle currently used by him has been imported in 2008 by the then CM Berty Premalal Dissanayake. The money is granted by the Treasury, and not the provincial council, he also said.
Meanwhile, he also claimed that the vehicle is actually priced at Rs 7 million and the rest is government taxes.
