UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been put under effective house arrest by the removal of the military from his security detail.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Gunawardena said that Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa are the leaders mostly hated by the pro-LTTE elements. Therefore, their lives are always in danger, he insisted.

Removal of military security is an attempt to expose the life of the former President to danger, Gunawardena said. This is an attempt to harm his life after all the character assassinations, he argued.

Commenting on the recent clash in Parliament, Gunawardena denounced the move by the Prime Minister to allow Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka to speak on Rajapaksa's security. He also added that the government side started the fight by attacking a 'Joint Opposition' MP.
